There are only a few nature parks in Fairborn, Ohio. One of them shines brighter than the others, in terms of hiking trails and nature sights. I am referring to Oakes Quarry Park.

The Oakes Quarry Park was once the location of a limestone mining before it was converted into a nature park in the 1990s. With 190 acres of land area, it is now the second biggest nature preserve in Fairborn, Ohio after its reforestation and development by introducing prairies and wetlands into the park.

Hiking inside the park would lead to interesting finds, like fossils of corals that date millions of years ago. Apart from flora species, fauna is abundant as well. Watch out for sightings of white-tailed deer, cottontail, red fox, coyote, raccoon and red-tailed hawk.

Trail length: 2-mile perimeter trail, 1 mile horse trail

Fishing inside the park is allowed without a license.

This is a FREE-ENTRY park. No entrance fee is collected at the gate.

Here are 360-degree photos I took of the park.

The first one was at the Fossil area.

This 360-degree photo was from atop the cliff.
