I have been traveling around the U.S. looking for places to see and explore. When friends told me that Ohio has a number of caverns, I got excited. All because I love cavern exploration. I already visited the most famous one in the State, the Ohio Caverns. This time, I was hoping that the Olentangy Indian Caverns would get the same admiration I had for Ohio Caverns, at least.

My high expectations failed me! I was disappointed inside the caverns. The Olentangy Indian Caverns was very small and not worth the waiting time for tours. From June to August, they only had guided tours, and I had to wait for 1 hour and 15 minutes for the next tour schedule. Although they had tours every 30 minutes, they did not put me in the earliest time because it was full. At first, that was fine with me because I was pretty sure the sights inside the caverns would give me chills.

Truly, if it was only a self-guided tour the whole thing would be over in 10 to 15 minutes. There was no loop that you follow inside the cavern. In fact, there were only three small dead-end sections.

Here’s how the tour went.

We went down the caverns this way:

We entered the first section of the caverns and looked at the, what the guide said, most active part of the cavern!

We went back to the same way we entered (yes, we had to turn around) and turned to the next section that was just few steps away! Here’s what we saw:

Again, we turned around and visited the last section that was the largest of the three. It had a large rock table referred to as Council Table.

And that was it! We spent 40 minutes inside.

I would give Olentangy Indian Caverns 3 stars. I would have given it a 2, but because the guides and the staff were all friendly and the service was good (which to me matters a lot), so an extra star is for the people working at the caverns.

They had other activities around the area to keep visitors entertained while waiting for their tour schedules. But all these, you had to pay extra. For example, the petting zoo was $3.00, treasure hunt maze was $5.00, a dilapidated miniature golf was $3.00, and a gem mining was $5.99 to $24.99. Really? Why couldn’t they just offer these for free for waiting visitors?
