In the midst of winter, I decided to hike one of the many trails of Carriage Hill MetroPark, the 1.8 miles yellow trail. There is no fee to enjoy hiking one of Ohio’s MetroParks. So I thought it would be the perfect choice to spend the Sunday afternoon away.

Check out other parks in Dayton Ohio.

The Carriage Hill MetroPark contains four color-coded trails winding through 900 acres of designated wilderness. The longest of these trails is the orange trail with 3.7 miles of intermediate difficulty. Since I only had an hour to spend, I decided to take the yellow trail.

The yellow trails brings me to scenic open meadows, tall-grass prairies and woodlands, with part of the trail on a boardwalk that extends through the a wetland. Uniquely, the wetlands are breeding places and nurseries for many species of birds and animals.

Although I went there on a winter, I could still imagine how beautiful the park is during summer because of its tall grass prairie. According to the park’s official website, the sun-loving flowers and grasses reach their flowering peak in mid- to late summer.

It took me less than 1 hour to finish the yellow trail, this includes all the stops I made to take photos and videos along the way.
