Others may find the Mirch Masala restaurant costly, but the cost comes with great service and great food. Mirch Masala in Anand, Gujarat India is a food place (oh, Indians refer to restaurants as hotels) that is worth visiting not just for its food and service, but for its ambiance and Bollywood feel.

Mirch Masala Restaurant

The restaurant (or hotel) has wall designs that portray old Bollywood movie scenes. This interior layout complements with its retro style dining. For cutlery, they use plates, forks and spoons, and cups that are made of brass. The ceiling has colorful banderetas that give the feeling of a nice street fiesta.

I was there with my Indian friends who treated me for lunch. I let them pick for my food as I am not familiar with Indian food. They picked something that was hot and spicy, but very tasty. They introduced me to roti, murgh masala (chicken dish), masala papad (crisps topped with with onions, tomatoes and spices), and masala chaas (masala buttermilk). Most especially, they taught me some ways of how to eat Indian food after I shared with them a funny experience I had that morning in the hotel restaurant. They said that I could use my hand to eat, that some food taste better when dipped in a sauce, that the bowl of water with lemon served after eating is not for drinking but for washing my hands….yes, washing the hands at the dining table.
