Getting a hotel room in downtown Chicago isn’t cheap.  If you have to stay longer  than a day in the city and stay at a hotel downtown, it would surely have a significant bite on your budget.

If you aren’t concerned of luxurious hotel features, try to check out Chinatown Hotel that is five times cheaper than the cheapest hotel downtown.  It is a great deal with a convenient location right in the heat of Chicago’s Chinatown.  It is also located just a couple of blocks away from the train station.

Although the rooms are small, they are quite comfy and clean.  Since it is cheap, do not expect that you get anything you want.  The rooms are basic and do not have refrigerator, microwave, flat iron, etc.  They do have a small TV with few and selected movie channels.  The internet could become intermittent, especially for rooms located in higher floors.  Also, the hotel does not have its own parking lot.  You can park anywhere on the streets, but finding a spot is hard. There is no breakfast, but coffee is served at the lounge.

Food and restaurants are never a problem.  This hotel is surrounded by many.

So if you are on a tight budget, the Chinatown Hotel could be your alternative hotel in Chicago.
