The Locust Grove School no. 12 is an old school building (more of a house) located inside the Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio. It served as a one-room schoolhouse at the corner of Possum and Bird Roads outside of Springfield, Ohio from 1896 until 1929. One teacher instructed students in grades one through eight. The students had to walk to school, sometimes several miles. Misbehaving children often received a paddling.

Historical facts:

1. Until the early 1900s, the only requirement to be a teacher in Ohio were that you graduate eight grade and pass a written exam.

2. Female teachers were required to be unmarried.
