On our way back to Brookings, South Dakota from our trip to Rapids City, my friends and I decided to stop by Mitchell’s tourist attraction, the Corn Palace aka the World’s Only Corn Palace. We have heard about it from the locals and since all five of us haven’t seen it yet, we made sure we’ll make a stopover.

Disappointed at first sight.

It turned out, there really isn’t much to brag about the Corn Palace!

Corn palace

Corn, really?

The outside of the building is partly decorated with corn stalk.

This is a gym!

Basically, it is just a high school-sized basketball gym inside with some interesting ears of corn stuck on the sides.

Should be named “Gym With Corn.”

The hype of being the “World’s Only Corn Palace” didn’t quite live up to expectations.

No museum inside. Nothing.

Overall, it was a big disappointment. If you are passing by Mitchell, South Dakota, you may want to stop and check it out. But if you aren’t, please don’t drive too far out of your way just to see this.

We only stayed for less than 30 minutes and left.
