Poor Philippines. My country ranks 105 (out of 182 countries) in the just released 2009 rankings of the UN Human Development Index (HDI). The report shows the Philippines down by 15 spots from 90 in the 2007/2008 rankings.

Norway dethrones Iceland moving up from no. 2 to no. 1.

The United States is down by one spot — from 12 to rank 13. India, which seems to show a lot of progress in the past year, also drops from 128 to 134. China is down from 81 to 92.

The Human Development Index measures achievements in terms of life expectancy, educational attainment and adjusted real income.
