How to Find Facebook Hidden Messages

12 Dec

Facebook Message

They are not messages Facebook sent you. They are messages people, not on your FB list, sent to you that Facebook hides. Facebook has a feature that automatically put messages from unknown people in a hidden folder.

Facebook wrote:

It seems wrong that an email message from your best friend gets sandwiched between a bill and a bank statement. It’s not that those other messages aren’t important, but one of them is more meaningful. With new Messages, your Inbox will only contain messages from your friends and their friends. All other messages will go into an Other folder where you can look at them separately. If someone you know isn’t on Facebook, that person’s email will initially go into the Other folder. You can easily move that conversation into the Inbox, and all the future conversations with that friend will show up there.

Myturf Ads Replace Adsense Ad Units

7 Dec

My Turf Ads

This is crazy. I am attending a week-long conference in San Francisco and have been accessing my sites using a free wifi service provided by the conference committee. My sites run ads, one of them is Google Adsense. I noticed today that all my Adsense spaces have been replaced by totally unrelated stuff. When I hovered my cursor over the unwanted ads, it shows a link to Myturf Ads.

According to Myturfads website:

MyTurf is the only company that unites the geographic presence of local internet providers with advertisers and publishers to deliver hyper local, high value ad content.

Earn Money Online From Chitika Maps

3 Dec

Sample Chitika Map

Chitika is competing with Google, Yahoo, and Bing by introducing its Chitika Maps. Not just ordinary maps, by the way, that publishers can use on their sites. Chitika maps combine advertising with its full-featured mapping system. The new feature provides an opportunity for publishers to monetize their websites further by earning money through the option of including ads within map units for local advertisers.

Chitika Maps is free to use!

I will be implementing the new feature soon. Check out the demo here.

Facebook Free Porn Pictures Abound — Blame The Filipinos?

18 Nov

Facebook Spam Attack

…And thanks to Facebook — the kids have seen a massive load of free porn pictures on the site that is supposed to be child-friendly. Insidefacebook.com says that 21% of Facebook members around the world are aged 13-17 years old! These past days, my Facebook wall was not spared at all with the flooding of pornographic posts — appearing one after the other.

According to Graham Cluley, a consultant with Web security firm Sophos, said that “explicit and violent” images included not just hardcore porn but photoshopped images of celebrities, including teen pop star Justin Bieber, in sexual positions; “extreme violence;” and at least one image of an abused dog. Oh, was there a naked grandma as well?

What Happened to Widgetbucks.com?

5 Nov

widgetbucks scam?

I was looking at my list of monetizing strategies (a long list, by the way) that I have applied on my blogs since I started blogging in 2006. To be honest, there are a number of them that I have not monitored for years. In fact, I have even forgotten that I signed up for them. One is Widgetbucks.

I tried accessing my publisher’s account today via Widgetbucks.com. But the site does not exist anymore. It’s totally gone on Google search.

I am pretty sure I had few bucks unclaimed from Widgetbucks for showing ads on my blogs. I guess I just have to donate the money to them.

Update TimThumb Code To Avoid Security Risk

28 Aug

TimThumb Code

I have finally updated the TimThumb.php (actually, the file I have was named thumb.php) after my hosting provider sent me a warning message regarding the vulnerability found on Timthumb.php. The problem was first discovered by Mark Maunder after his blog was hacked.

The timthumb.php file is a script commonly used in WordPress’s (and other software’s) themes and plugins to resize images. The exploit allows an attacker to arbitrarily upload and create files and/or folders on your account, which can then be used for a number of malicious tasks, including but not limited to defacement, browser high-jacking and infection, data harvesting and more. After a site has been exploited, it may lead to becoming labeled a “Malicious Website” by Google or other security authorities.

Facebook Updates Sharing and Profile Controls

26 Aug

New Facebook Status Interface

Today, Facebook activated the new sharing and profile controls. The new sharing feature comes with an interface right at the status bar. Before, if one has to tag a friend in the status bar, the “@” symbol has be typed first to convert the name of the friend into a link. Now, that has changed. Facebook integrates a button that you can click and tag your friends. No need of the “@” symbol.

Second feature: location tagging. “Now you can easily share what city or neighborhood you’re in with every post you make, or share a particular place, like a park or cafe.” I am not fond of tagging my location, so this feature may be useless for me.
