Book Cover: Will The World End in 2012

I recently got a copy of the book Will The World End In 2012? by Dr. Raymon Hundley. Will the world really end on December 21, 2012? The book analyzes the circumstances and theories behind the predictions by studying the claims of scientists, theologians, technologists, and others. Dr. Hundley listed the arguments circulating right now regarding the coming doomsday.

Critical Mistakes to Avoid in a Scientific Presentation

18 Feb

I have reread the book “The Craft of Scientific Presentations” by Michael Alley. The first time I read it was four years ago when I was still starting to appreciate scientific research and writing. Fast forward: Now that I often find myself presenting my own research results to the scientific community, I realized that I still haven’t learned the basics and that there are still tons of things to know and avoid when presenting. So I scanned the pages of the book once again and listed all the critical mistakes usually committed in a scientific presentation.

1. Giving the wrong speech
This has something to do with not orienting yourself on the various fields of expertise your audience is into. Before any presentation, make a quick background information of the attendees. This way, you will have at least a general idea of whom you are talking to.

The Vertical Self Book Review

10 Apr

I am the kind of reader who does not stick to just one type of book. I may be a fiction lover, but I also have a collection of self-help, inspirational, and religious books. “The Vertical Self” by Mark Sayers that I just finished reading, will stay on top of the pile for 1.) making me discover a new way of living the faith and 2.) having a nice study guide at the end of the book.

Will you wallow in your own worldly desires or step into a journey of God-filled life? This is what “The Vertical Self” tries to tell the readers. There is a horizontal self that people usually give importance to. This is the selfish side of man. And there is a vertical self too, the holy side that people often neglect.

Buried Alive – Roy Hallums Brings Vividness

31 Jan

Roy Hallums’ book “Buried Alive” is pure writing genius. It is like listening to a radio live report from the scene of the kidnapping incident. It is so vivid that every paragraph can even become a short story. From the day he was kidnapped to the day he was rescued and reunited with his family, Hallums is a born storyteller with a gift of clarity.
