I cannot count the number of times I went fishing at Oakwood Lakes State Park in Brookings, South Dakota. Among all the fishing locations my friends and I have tried, the Oakwood Lakes State Park almost always would give us the most and best fish catch.

Early in the morning, around 6 AM, we drove to the lake just in time for the sunrise. We also wanted to avoid competition and getting there early meant being at the right spot of the lake.

The Oakwood Lakes State Park has shaded campgrounds and picnic areas. This shed has a a number of tables and chairs and a huge grilling station.

The fishing docks are perfect for laying around while waiting for the perfect catch. Rarely that you’d go home without catching either a Walleye, Perch, Northern pike, or Bullheads.

There are other activities in the park too, apart from fishing. Camping, swimming, hiking, and boating are some of them. During winter, you may want to try ice fishing and cross-country skiing. Canoe and kayak rentals are $15 for 3 hours or $30/day.
