If the Dripping Springs Natural Area, which is on the west side of the Organ Mountains captivates you, the east side is just equally captivating. There you’d find the Aguirre Spring Campground, a national recreational area that is settled below the slopes of the majestic Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. Every turn gives you a different view of the peaks on one side and the vast valley on the other side.

Weekends could get very busy at the campground, with families wanting to spend a few nights with their RVs. So, better get there early. The entrance gate closes at around 7PM during summer days.

The Aguirre Spring Campground is 5 miles off I-70 and 30 minutes away from the famous White Sands National Monument.

There are plenty of small sheds for short-time picnics and gatherings. Just drive around the loop to find your best location. Yes, each shed comes with a grilling station.

When I was there, there was a little thunderstorm and the mountains turned into a light spectacle.

Here is a 360-degree photo I took near the campground. Use your mouse to pan through the image.
