The Eiffel Tower is an iconic landmark in Paris, France, and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel and his team of engineers for the 1889 World’s Fair held in Paris. The tower stands at 324 meters tall, including its antenna, and was the tallest man-made structure in the world when it was completed.

The Eiffel Tower was originally intended to be a temporary structure and was slated to be dismantled after the World’s Fair. However, its popularity and utility as a telecommunications tower allowed it to remain standing, and it quickly became a beloved symbol of France and a must-see attraction for tourists visiting Paris.

The tower is made of iron and weighs approximately 10,100 tonnes. It is comprised of four separate legs that come together at the first platform, approximately 57 meters above ground level. From there, the tower narrows and tapers upwards, culminating in a small observation deck at the very top.

Visitors to the Eiffel Tower can choose to take the stairs or an elevator to reach the tower’s various levels. The stairs can be quite challenging, with a total of 1,665 steps to reach the top. The elevators are a more popular choice and can take visitors directly to the first or second platform, or all the way to the top.

The tower’s first and second platforms offer stunning views of Paris, including the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Seine River. Visitors can also enjoy a meal at one of the tower’s two restaurants, the Jules Verne and the 58 Tour Eiffel. The Jules Verne is a high-end restaurant located on the tower’s second platform, while the 58 Tour Eiffel is a more casual dining option on the first platform.

The Eiffel Tower’s third and highest level, known as the summit, is only accessible by elevator. The summit offers an unparalleled 360-degree view of Paris and its surroundings, making it a popular spot for tourists to take photos and soak in the scenery. The summit also features a small museum dedicated to Gustave Eiffel and the tower’s construction.

The Eiffel Tower has been the site of many significant events throughout its history. During World War I, the tower was used to intercept enemy communications, and during World War II, it served as a radio broadcast station for Nazi propaganda. In more recent times, the tower has been used as a backdrop for numerous films and television shows, and has hosted a variety of public events, including a zip line adventure in 2019.

Despite being over 130 years old, the Eiffel Tower remains a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of France’s cultural heritage. Its unique design, towering height, and stunning views make it a must-see destination for anyone visiting Paris, and its enduring popularity ensures that it will continue to be a beloved landmark for generations to come.

Go and book a ticket in advance if you wish to go atop the tower. The queue outside can get really long (more than an hour usually) especially if you intend to travel over the weekends.

Visit the tower at both daytime and nighttime. You will have two different experiences.
