As the title reads, “It could have been an amazing experience at the Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta” in New Mexico. Why the “could” when everyone has been saying that the balloon fiesta is a magnificent event to enjoy every color of the rainbow in the sky all at once? The answer to that is this: all the balloons failed to take off because of unfavorable weather. They have to stop the lift-off because of the strong gust of wind that early morning of the mass ascension. Sad.

Anyway, my friend and I woke up at 4:30 AM just to be at the Balloon Fiesta Park before sunrise. We were surprised to see a number of spectators who may have arrived hours before us. And look at the long line of food booths and shops!

The excitement rose in the crowd as the first balloons seemed to take flight. However, everyone was disappointed when it was announced that the lift-off would not push through. Here are some photos of the failed lift-off.

I will be back next time. I will make sure I’ll spend at least two days in Albuquerque so I won’t miss the mass ascension at the International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. I will see this thing of beauty again!

The park has two roadway entrances:

– Northern Entrance (I-25 Exit 234, Roy-Tramway, south to Balloon Fiesta Parkway)
– Southern Entrance (I-25 Exit 233 Alameda Road west to Balloon Museum Drive)

Some few things to note: The traffic to Balloon Fiesta park can be horrific, so if possible, arrive early. Also, it can get pretty darn cold at night and early morning, bring a jacket.
