I wonder why the tap water in my apartment in Brookings South Dakota is colored yellow. It started on Wednesday last week (June 5) when I wanted to cook and noticed the water coming out of the faucet to be a little murky. I then checked the water in the toilet and it was all the same — yellowish!

My housemate decided to call the Utilities office to inquire if there have been problems reported lately regarding pipe leaks in the area. The lady who answered the phone said that they still have to investigate and promised to call back. She also asked us to turn the faucet on and let the water run for at least 15 minutes. We did that.

After 30 minutes of wasting water, the lady did not call back. Nor there was a change of the water color — the same murky water was coming our of the faucet!

Since it was already late in the afternoon, my housemate and I decided to just wait until the following day to see if there will be some changes to the water condition or not. The morning after, it was all the same!

Here are photos I took.

So what is the cause of this yellow-colored water from the tap? We still have to get some answers from the Brookings Utility office.
